The following pieces are some of my first hand thrown objects I made during my studies at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. I present them as an important part of my ceramic art work because of their backstory and the origin of the clay I used. During the construction of the first underground station in Vienna in 1969, they found lots of clay, the Karlsplatz clay, which was donated to the University of Applied Arts.
As a student at the art University I learned how to throw on the wheel with the Karlsplatz-clay. It is a great experience to work with the clay which comes right from the historic centre of my home city Vienna. It became even more important when I moved to Canada, because I brought some pieces with me as a reminder of my hometown.
